Coming up for air

After a fabulous, but exhausting visit from my sister and her family, things are settling back to a semblance of normality.

We have spent the weekend enjoying the silence. Who knew that 2 small children could create such chaos? I promise to tell you all about it, but for the moment I'm just savouring the serenity.

Given what I know of our one small child's capacity of creating chaos and huge amounts of noise, I'm dreading to imminent arrival of number two!

"ahhh the serenity" - (wasn't that a scene in "The Castle"????). Certainly not something that features nearly enough in my everyday life (post Caspi-Man).

I always find it such a bittersweet feeling after members of my family leave - it's so wonderful when they visit- you look forward to it for ages - it's wonderful to spend time showing them where & how you live (& then there's that slightly unnatural element of spending 24hrs a day with them) then after they've left - I always seem to fall into a bit of a funk. (I really hope that hasn't happened for you.)

Oh, I long for the more regular weekend visit option, or the spontanious drop in for coffee/dinner... bloody tyranny of distance!

Does make me wonder how on earth ex-pats coped before the days of cheap tele-communication and the internet?

Helen - this is my second attempt for my first time on anyones blog. I am trying to reach someone who can read and speak english that might be able to help me find out how to place an AD in the local Mainz paper. I am living in Colorado and my sister and I were separated over thirty years ago when my mother married a US soldier who was my step dad. Is it possible you could point me in the right direction. I have already contact the Red Cross and also some other Mainz web sites.

Wolf - hello.

Below is a link to the daily newspaper (Allgemeine Zeitung). They do have a personal ad column (familienanzeigen). On the left hand navigation bar, this is found under the heading "Markplatz" (Market place). This may be the section you are looking for, as it contains announcements of the usual stuff 'births, deaths and marriages'.

Link to newspaper:

Contact form from personal ad section.

The newspaper may be able to help you directly about how much placing an ad would cost.

I hope this helps you a little.
